JOURNEY
Gallery: Gold & Sacrifice · Contemporary Symbolism · Author: Adrian Thomas
The flesh is the only sacred map.
-
Description:
The inclusion of Journey in the Gold and Sacrifice line reflects the sacralization of the body through symbolism. The ancient cartography superimposed on perfect skin is not a whimsical ornament; it is an iconography of sovereignty. The use of tactile textured gold on the torso evokes the historical greed of colonial expeditions, transferring that same ambition to the mystical experience of immersive eroticism.
The duality of the work lies in its handling of water. Below, the physical, dense sea powerfully strikes her thighs, representing material reality. On her torso, the cartographic sea traces the curves of her anatomy with a deep, smooth blue, symbolizing the unconscious and mystery. Her fiery hair is the only witness to fire on a canvas dominated by golden light, a sign of pure instinct that crowns a composition of impeccable balance. The viewer does not contemplate a portrait; they contemplate an allegory of origin and conquest.

Recommended Exhibition Guide
SANTOGrail recommends this work for exhibition formats up to 60 × 80 cm, with professional printing on fine art paper or artistic canvas.
As a curatorial criterion, we suggest:
- professional quality fine art paper or artistic canvas
- pigment inks
- simple frames in matte black, natural wood, or off-white
- LED lighting, no direct sunlight
- a presentation where the artwork can breathe visually
For works printed on paper, framing with acrylic or UV-protected glass is suggested, with adequate separation between the artwork and the protective surface.
The final appreciation will depend on the medium, the lab, the lighting, and the exhibition space.
