DESCRIPTION

Morpheus in Flames reinterprets sleep not as rest, but as a zone of transit. The work depicts two female bodies asleep on a bed of illuminated clouds, while a male figure ascends among them under the presence of a burning sun and celestial bodies.

Morpheus does not appear here as a peaceful god. He is a force in combustion. His ascent does not conclude sleep: it sets it ablaze. The women are neither dead nor sleeping in the ordinary sense. They are in a liminal state, separated from the material world, suspended in a territory where idleness takes the form of sacred abandonment and wrath shifts to the sky, to fire and wind.

The flaming tips of the hair are essential. They indicate that rest has not extinguished the fury. Even in sleep, something burns. Even in stillness, something resists.
