THE BLOOD OF MIDAS

Gallery: Wound & Ornament · Materic Neo-Expressionism · Author: Adrian Thomas

The myth of Midas reinterpreted through the physics of immersive eroticism and the invasion of biological fluids.

-

DESCRIPTION:

In this canvas, Adrian Thomas executes one of the most visceral statements of his lineage. The surface of the painting does not decorate a silhouette; it records the map of its biological siege. The thick brushwork and extreme impasto do not represent external armor, but rather the eruption of golden plasma that has taken control of the figure's interior. The relief, sculpted with relentless gestural violence, concentrates on the breasts and pubis, marking the epicenters of the invasion where molten metal has already immobilized the flesh.

The genius of the work lies in organic resistance: the exposed belly and navel are the last trench of human breathing. That skin, which still retains the temperature of the encounter, contrasts dramatically with the crimson edges that boil around it, betraying the real burning of the dermis upon contact with the god. The white background, resolved with chaotic and dirty brushstrokes, functions as a clinical shroud that pushes the torso forward claustrophobically. The immersive eroticism of the maison here dispenses with complacency to embrace the painful transmutation of being into an eternal relic.

Recommended Exhibition Guide

SANTOGrail recommends this work for exhibition formats up to 60 × 80 cm, with professional printing on fine art paper or artistic canvas.

As a curatorial criterion, we suggest:

  • professional quality fine art paper or artistic canvas
  • pigment inks
  • sober frames in matte black, natural wood or off-white
  • LED lighting, no direct sunlight
  • a presentation where the work can breathe visually

For works printed on paper, framing with acrylic or UV protective glass and with adequate separation between the work and the protective surface is suggested.

The final appreciation will depend on the medium, the laboratory, the lighting, and the exhibition space.
