Description:

Gethsemane belongs to the Dream and Narrative wing, where the image becomes a symbolic scene, a suspended narrative, and a territory for interpretation.

The artwork presents a man kneeling in a nocturnal garden, covering his face in a gesture of supplication, guilt, or resistance. Behind him, a winged female figure, of serene beauty and unsettling presence, places her hands on his shoulders. Her body emerges amidst black veils, moon, mist, and olive trees, not as a grotesque apparition, but as a form of silent temptation.

The visual language of the piece responds to an oneiric biblical neosymbolism. The scene draws references from spiritual imagery and transforms them into a pictorial composition of desire, conflict, and mystery. The moon illuminates the garden as an ancient witness; the golden reflection on the ground opens a path to the sacred; the red flowers introduce a reading of blood, desire, and fall.

This is not a literal religious work. It is an allegory about the instant when the soul discovers that temptation can take the form of beauty.
