DESCRIPTION

The Second Circle belongs to the Wound and Ornament wing of the SANTOGrail mansion, where beauty is presented permeated by tension, matter, desire, ornament, and rupture.

The work depicts an interior scene dominated by red: draperies, aged gold, warm light, and a closed atmosphere of theatrical power. In the center, an adult woman sits facing forward with a sovereign presence. Her posture is not passive: it is a declaration. Facing her, a man with his back to the viewer occupies the lower axis of the composition, creating an intimate, ceremonial, and deeply symbolic tension.

The referenced artistic movement is contemporary Baroque with tenebrist accents and figurative neo-expressionism. The work uses theatricality, warm chiaroscuro, oil texture, visible impasto, and a high-intensity red palette to construct a scene where desire becomes emotional architecture.

The title refers to Dante's Second Circle, a literary territory associated with desire and condemnation. But Santograil does not treat it as a classical illustration or an academic reference. It transforms it into a contemporary chamber where condemnation changes its meaning: the woman does not fall into the circle; she turns it into a throne.
