THE FOURTH DESIRE

Gallery: Gold and Sacrifice · Contemporary allegorical symbolism - Dark Neo-Baroque and material expressionism · Author: Adrian Thomas

A woman descends. A man steps forward. Gold falls as if desire has melted the world.

-

Description

The Fourth Desire belongs to the Gold and Sacrifice wing of the SANTOGrail maison, where precious matter, allegory, beauty, and condemnation meet in a single visual tension.

The work features an adult woman descending in the center of a wounded architecture, surrounded by liquid gold, broken walls, shadow, deep red, and decaying objects of wealth. In front of her, a man approaches with intensity, interrupting the descent before the female figure fully touches the ground.

The scene offers a symbolic interpretation of greed. It is not merely the desire for gold, but the desire to possess. To take before waiting. To appropriate that which has not yet fully arrived.

The gold, in this piece, does not beautify the scene: it corrodes it. It spills like a material fever, covering the edges of the space and transforming the architecture into a sanctuary damaged by its own abundance. Wealth appears as a seductive force, but also as a threat.

Recommended Exhibition Guide

SANTOGrail recommends this artwork for exhibition formats up to 60 × 80 cm, with professional printing on fine art paper or artistic canvas.

As a curatorial criterion, we suggest:

  • professional quality fine art paper or artistic canvas
  • pigmented inks
  • minimalist frames in matte black, natural wood, or off-white
  • LED lighting, no direct sunlight
  • a presentation where the artwork can breathe visually

For works printed on paper, framing with acrylic or UV-protective glass and adequate separation between the artwork and the protective surface is suggested.

The final appreciation will depend on the medium, the lab, the lighting, and the exhibition space.
